The Kings of The South
The Fourth Sphere of Power Takes Shape
Prophecy - Signs
Friday, November 16, 2001
Jack Kinsella - Omega Letter Editor

South Africa's geopolitical position is in transition. The two power centers in the region are South Africa and Zimbabwe. But Zimbabwe's influence is on the decline while the South Africans are assuming dominance. Both regions are suffering a raging epidemic of AIDS that threatens to kill a quarter of the current generation.

Even as Zimbabwe's influence diminishes, Angola, the sub-Saharan continent's largest energy producer and one of Africa's wealthiest nations is poised to step in the the vaccum.

South African Defense Minister Mosuioa Lekota recently traveled to Angola to discuss security cooperation. Lekota announced that Angola and South Africa had agreed to establish a joint security mechanism for enforcing and monitoring U.N. sanctions against the Angolan rebel movement National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).

The two nations are nowhere near friends, but they need one another as they try and forge a viable regional power bloc out of the Organization of African States.

Zimbabwe's regional influence is on the wane. Facing a spiraling economy and growing political opposition, the government's preoccupation with its internal strife has created an opening for rival, South Africa to exploit. It is now turning attention to Angola, one of the wealthiest and militarily strong countries in southern Africa.

The recent developments are a shift from past Angola-South Africa relations. During the era of apartheid South Africa supported the UNITA rebels. Following the ascension to power of the black African National Congress in 1994, Pretoria suspended and ultimately ceased support for the group. The government subsequently launched efforts to expand diplomatic, economic and military relations with Angola, and by mid-2000 the two southern African neighbors had broached tentative military cooperation.

Angola - like most of southern Africa - does not want the region dominated solely by South Africa's foreign policy. Given the choice, Angola is likely hoping to balance relations with South Africa against its more enduring and closer relationship with ally Zimbabwe. Angola has also begun to exert its own regional policies, and this is a potential source of conflict as well.

But as Zimbabwe continues to crumble both Angola and Namibia may begin to look to South Africa to fill the void.

The Bible speaks of four major blocs of power that will exist in the last days; the Kings of the East [China and the Asian states] the Gog-Magog Alliance to the north [Russia and the Arab/Muslim states] the Revived Roman Empire [EU and allies] and the Kings of the South.

These four figure prominently into the end times power struggle foretold by both Daniel and John.

The Kings of the East have more or less coalesced into China [the Dragon] and the Seven Dragon Nations; Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. [ASEAN] The only regional grouping of nations foretold by the prophets for the last days is the Kings of the South [Africa] and they are in the process of developing their own regional identity.

The Bible spoke of these regional powers thousands of years in advance and said that they would come into existence in a single generation. The same generation that would see the fulfillment of all yet-unfulfilled Bible prophecy. Jesus spoke of it when He said "this generation shall not pass until all these things be fulfilled." [Matthew 24:34]

A critical precursor to the development of these four power blocs was the rebirth of the state of Israel. The Kingdom of Israel was destroyed in 702 BC by Sargon IV of Syria. For five hundred years, even preceding the lifetimes of both Daniel and Ezekiel, there was no state of Israel, just the occupied Kingdom of Judah.

Yet both prophets confidently wrote of a nation, called Israel, that would exist in the last days on the same piece of real estate given Abraham by God. A state with its capital in Jerusalem; a state that would be hated by all the nations of the earth.

Israel as born in 1948. The first of the Dragon nations, China, was the result of the 1947-1948 Cultural Revolution that swept Mao Tse-Tung to power and saw Chiang Kai-shek banished to Taiwan. The European Community was born out of the Benelux Treaty of 1948.

The Russian/Muslim alliances with Syria, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and the rest of the Arab world, as well as the US support of Israel were products of the Cold War.

The Cold War began, according to historians, with the Berlin Blockade and Berlin Airlift of 1948.

The Organization of African States, now the Organization of African Unity traces its genesis directly to the birth of the National Party of South Africa whose policy of apartheid ultimately convinced the black African nations that the only way they could ever hope to achieve a measure of self-determination was by merging into their own regional grouping of nations.

Today, all four of the spheres of influence foretold by the prophets of the Bible are either in place or in development. All can trace their birth to the same period in history as the establishment of the State of Israel, a state that continued to exist without nation, land or flag, maintaining all their cultural, dietary and religious laws and identity -- despite the best efforts of their various host nations to wipe them out for more than 2000 years.

The skeptics might argue that this is coincidence. But it is not. It is fulfilled prophecy for the last days.

And the rest of Bible prophecy will be fulfilled with equal precision, including the Rapture of the Church and the subsequent Great Tribulation. And, as Jesus promised, once begun, this generation will not pass until all has been fulfilled.
