A request of a private restaurant dinner by British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been refused by Chinese President Hu Jintao. Chinese officials reiterate that it was inappropriate for a senior Chinese leader to attend this kind of invitation. Since the visit is not a state visit a formal state banquet is not required by protocol however, Hu Jintao will meet Blair for a formal dinner in a government hall.
