Recently Ken Salazar (D-CO) called James Dobson the Antichrist. Having caused a bit of a fire storm, he later apologized and just said all like Dobson are fanatics and dangerous but that’s nothing new. Many are throwing around the term “theocracy” in a negative way. That means in their eyes some are trying to establish a world governed by God, or at the very least, the Bible. Recently in Washington, secular humanists and liberals of all persuasion convened in Washington to strategize how to counter what they believe is a growing threat from conservatives and the “religious right.”
This battle isn’t new but now it seems the heavy armor is coming out, partly because today black is white, right is wrong, wrong is right, up is down, and good is evil (Is. 5:20). What should we expect?
The scenario worsened with the Terri Schiavo incident when millions of Christians/conservatives became outraged that hardened criminals—and even pets—got a much lighter death sentence than slow starvation and dehydration. That’s when Maureen Dowd insisted Christians wanted a “theocracy” in America and was concerned that liberals would actually start being assassinated. Then a familiar term surfaced again: Christian jihad. Bill Maher said we are “mentally ill with a neurological disorder.” Someone else said we made up the “moron majority.” Bill Moyers blamed the “environmental disaster” on Christians. And on and on it goes.
I think right now it is easier to be a Wiccan in America than a Christian or a conservative. Laws are on the books to protect evil. If you are in public office you almost need to keep quiet because good is being demonized. The ACLU (Assault Christian Liberties Unmercifully) and People for the American Way say they are for “diversity” and “tolerance” but clearly Christian beliefs are too diverse and radical. They seem obsessed with, “Tear down that cross” just as Ronald Reagan rightfully stated, “Tear down that wall.”
The Christian worldview isn’t a “political strategy.” It is a belief system that guides our entire lives. The Bible says that the gospel will be an offence and that Jesus will cause division. Actually Jesus came to do away with religion and replace it with a relationship with Him so the ACLU-types should appreciate Him since they are “relationship-oriented.”
Here’s the good news: A “theocracy” is on the way! When Christ returns after the Battle of Armageddon with the saints, He will rule and reign out of Jerusalem for one thousand years. It’s called the Millennium and the King of Kings is in charge of this great theocracy. There won’t be confusion between Taliban fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists. No one will want to smite this theocracy, for everyone on earth will be in agreement, so much so that the lion will lie down with the lamb. We’ll be free to say anything but we’ll be so busy honoring our Lord and doing our Millennial assignments that little else will matter.
I say bring it on sooner rather than later.
