Roger Cukierman, head of the CRIF (Conseil Représentatif des Institutions juives de France)told in an interview that 'anti-Americanism and anti-globalisation among French leftists had tipped into anti-Zionism, and was skidding towards anti-Semitism'. Schools in France are turning into a breeding ground of anti-Semitism and the presence of Muslim community is adding fuel to fire.
Though Muslims are generally blamed for provocative actions Cukierman added, that all French citizens were responsible for a 'climate of brutality'. France has a largest Muslim and Jewish population in Western Europe.
Though the Palestinian issue is considered as the reason behind anti-Semitism, the hatred for Jews is not a recent phenomenon.
As Cukierman had recently commented, 'we fear that if and when the war with Iraq starts we may face a revival of anti-Semitic acts' speaks volumes by itself.
French society is coming out of closet and an example of such a thing was seen in last year's elections in France when Le Pen --an outright racist -- emerged as a powerful and potential future leader of France.
The far-right has gained public sympathy and is getting popular. This sends a spine chilling message to the Jewish community in France.
