After reading Jack’s commentary on “Religion's OK -- Just Keep God Out of It,” I must have seen at least three different shades of red after my temper boiled to the point of sizzling. Nothing should surprise me anymore, but I still keep shaking my head; wondering if any semblance of reality will return before the Rapture. While the entire article showcased just how extreme the persecution of Christianity is becoming here in America, it also pointed out the attack of what was once thought of as “moral.” Even though we’ve been bracing ourselves for quite some time against this moral decline and have come to expect that Christianity will be under attack in the Last Days, I still find it peculiar that the Boy Scouts of America would be so vehemently ostracized for not allowing openly-gay leaders within their organization.
No matter which side of the aisle you stand on in the argument regarding same-sex relationships, I cannot understand for the life of me why laws would be made that support the life-style choice of an adult versus the best interest of the child. Furthermore, I cannot understand what would give government officials any right to impose sanctions or any other law that would “bully” an organization to hold a particular belief-system.
Let’s first take a look at the laws that honor the life-style choice in the name of “diversity” above the best interest of the child. Granted, the Boy Scouts of America’s policies have been legally challenged and have not been found to constitute illegal discrimination; as a private organization in the United States they have the right to freedom of association (Boy Scouts of America v. Dale). However, it still has not prevented many organizations or individuals from badgering the court systems with lawsuit after lawsuit trying to overturn the US court’s decision, nor from other lawsuits to be filed. In fact, some types of government support have been jeopardized as a result of the non-discrimination lawsuits.
Even when I try to look at it from “the world’s” perspective versus God’s Truth, I still cannot make sense of it. What parent would feel comfortable letting their six-year-old little girl use a public Men’s restroom by herself? Anyone? What adult woman would feel comfortable walking around nude in the men’s locker room with a bunch of males standing around watching her? I really can’t think of an exotic dancer that would even be comfortable with that.
Part of the Boy Scout experience is the camping or survival trips away from their parents. Why should these boys be expected to be around leaders who, for all intents and purposes, are essentially the equivalent of the opposite sex. Would you feel comfortable letting your girl child go on a camping trip that was led by only men?
Now, let’s dive into the second issue of government officials bullying a private organization into holding a particular belief-system. I don’t know about you, but I sure do not want government poking their nose into the way my Church worships. Secondly, if the American public does not agree with the Boy Scouts of America, they are always free to financially support another similar organization that does hold their same belief systems. Instead of changing the Boy Scouts of America, Americans can send their child to more “tolerable” groups or clubs. They do not have to donate one dime to the Boy Scouts, nor do they have to have their children be a member. They can speak-up by using their wallets and letting the free market decide. If enough people agree with them, then the Boy Scouts will most likely modify their policies if they want to stay in business. I would hope they would not do that, but I also could refuse to allow my child to be apart of the organization if they modified their policies to something I did not believe in.
For now, at least Americans still have the freedom to choose where they go to Church, what music they want to listen to, what they want to watch or read, what to eat, and what clubs they want themselves or their children to attend. Someday, in the not-so-distant future, I’m sure we will not have the same privileges as the government continues to whittle them away. Even if the government takes away all of our perceived liberties, the Founders were absolutely correct when they proclaimed that our rights were given to us by our Creator. At least we will still have that; even if the government is sitting on them. I have a sneaky suspicion we’ll be witnesses to even greater oppression, but not before we’re comfortably seated in the balcony seats.
