Ode to Idiots
Perspective on the News

Rebecca Droeger

The arrogance of the idiots in charge (TIIC) never ceases to amaze me.  It seems like the more degrees, certifications and acronyms some of these idiots acquire, the more pompous they become.  They flaunt their credentials in the faces of the “less-educated” as if they’ve obtained some secret and privileged knowledge that only they are good enough to know.

Heaven help you if you disagree with TIIC because anyone who disagrees with them is categorized as “too stupid to understand.”  It does not matter if the person that disagrees with them has a degree in higher education either; they’ll either spout that the education was not earned by a sophisticated school or that you didn’t earn a high enough degree to become an expert on the subject in question.

For instance, if you watch Glenn Beck, you have most likely have seen footage of an interview that reporter Jan Helfeld conducted with Democratic Congressman Pete Stark about the National Debt.  Apparently, Mr. Stark is vying for the Head Idiot in Charge position as he spews forth his nonsense about how the more in debt the US becomes as a nation, the wealthier the US is considered.

Mr. Stark boldly waved his expertise on the matter of federal spending by using complicated phrases such as “the point is, again, AND AGAIN,” and “I’ll say it again, slowly o.k.?”

Then, Mr. Stark displays his extreme intelligence when he responds to Mr. Helfeld’s question regarding whether Mr. Stark will be voting in favor of this deficit spending by mocking Mr. Helfeld.  Mr. Stark interrupts Mr. Helfeld by asking him if he has ever studied economics.  When Mr. Helfeld responds that he has, Mr. Stark asks “where?”  Then Mr. Stark proceeds to badger him with questions like “did you get a degree, a doctorate’s, a master’s, how many classes did you take?”

Pete demonstrated his supreme intellect by suggesting Jan would be conducting a better interview if Jan had more knowledge on the subject and that Jan could at least ask “simple-minded questions” if Jan bothered to study the subject at all.

Pete’s finest moment came when Jan suggested that Pete explain the concepts of becoming wealthier by having more debt for those who do not have doctorate or master degrees; to which Pete lovingly spat “…if you would shut-up for a minute…”!

No, wait, the crème-de-le-crème was when Pete Stark threatens Jan Helfeld and screams at him to get the *expletive* out of here or I’ll throw you through the window.”  Lovely.  Professional.   Insightful.  I have got to find out where Pete Stark went to school and be sure to get my edumacation from thare.   Sarcasm intended

With the arrogant idiots like Pete Stark running the country, no wonder the US is in such a mess.  What’s worse is that Pete Stark is not the only elitist snob to think like this.  Worse, still, is the type of attitude that Mr. Stark represents in this country.

No wonder God had no commendations for the Laodicean Church in Revelation 3:17-18

“Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.”

Awhile back, Jack wrote some great articles How the Economy REALLY Works, and Special Report: The Doomed Dollar  about how having a national debt works to the advantage of the United States.  In the first article, he showcased how someone who has a little debt can have more items than someone who saved up for it.  In the second, he explained how the dollar works.

While having some debt can help the economy, the average citizen realizes that the US is on an unsustainable path and that we have used up our spending power.  It’s just a matter of time before other countries realize the same thing and call in the loans they’ve given to us.

The past US debt enabled the economy to flourish because by spending money it borrowed, it could increase investments, production and job growth.

But, the current US debt is like a private citizen (we’ll call him Joe Buyer) who has secured several loans to purchase a house, two cars, a boat and a jet ski; then maxed out his credit cards to buy three big-screen TV’s, clothes, two trips to Vegas and gas to fill up the cars, boat and the jet ski.

Joe was loving life and living at the top of his game.  He was doing great until his company did not do as well as forecasted and didn’t give him that raise he expected.  All of his minimum payments started adding up because he was still charging daily expenses to his credit cards; things like groceries, a trip to the hardware store to fix a leaky pipe, or dinner for his mom.

So, Joe decided to take advantage of credit card offers where he could transfer the balances of his credit cards that had higher interest rates.  The plan worked splendidly until he wrecked his sports’ car and had to pay $3,000 to fix it.

Joe didn’t have any money in savings, so he whipped out his old credit card and charged it.  He figured he could pay it off in a few months if he just didn’t charge anything else to the other nine cards he had.

Unfortunately for Joe, those few months proved to be quite problematic as his employer faired far worse than originally expected from their estimates.  They had to lay off poor Joe.

Joe thought “I can make it.  I’ll just get more credit cards to transfer my balances, and I’ll keep transferring them until I find another job.”

Poor Joe, he just couldn’t find credit cards that were willing to give him offers after he’d been laid off.  Then, to top it all off, Joe couldn’t find work because so many other people were out of a job and looking for the same position Joe used to do at half of the price.

After awhile, Joe Buyer did not have any other options but to file for bankruptcy.  He could no longer afford his house, cars, boat or jet ski; and neither could anyone else or else Joe would have sold them.  He couldn’t even sell them for what he owed on them.  Joe was broke with no way to pay off the debt he had, much less incur any other expenditures.

The United States is running along the exact same path, except its creditors do not know the US is out of a job yet.  The Dollar is only worth what people are willing to pay for it; and once they realize it’s not worth the paper it’s printed on, people like Pete Stark can quote all the great economic principles they can think of.  It won’t make a heap of difference when there is no demand for anything the US has to offer: overpriced workers with a lot of debt.

Revelation 6:5-6 “And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.   And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, a measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.”
