Zechariah  14 : 12
And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

Throwing Rocks at Israel
Israel - Middle East
Friday, October 08, 2010
Alf Cengia

Anti-Semitism and anti-Israeli vitriol can take many forms. I prefer the “in-your-face” invectives such as you find used by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. There’s no beating around the bush with him. You know where you stand if he doesn’t like you.

Last Sunday he fired off a few shots at the US and Israel while, according to YNet news, “casting fresh doubts” on the September 11 attacks. Actually they’re not “fresh doubts” at all - they’re the same old ones regurgitated. But the central target for Ahmadinejad’s rant was – surprise, surprise – Israel.

According to AFP:

"They have such nerve to threaten us and say all options are on the table. May the undertaker take you, your tables... away as you have dragged the world in mud," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying in a speech. He branded Israel a "savage dog unleashed in the region."

Ahmadinejad was possibly recuperating from the effects of the Stuxnet virus so he was no doubt still feeling a bit under the weather. I do like his pluck and courage though. He could have some solid evidence as to the perpetrator of that virus and may want to take matters in his own hands.

Apparently on October 13 he is planning to visit the southern Lebanese villages of Bint Jbeil and Maroun al-Ras which are only a few kilometers away from the Israeli side of the Blue Line. London-based newspaper Al-Quds Al-Arabi reports he is looking forward to throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers from the fence. No one tampers with his Nuclear Reactor and gets away with it.

The situation is serious enough for Israel to appeal against the Iranian President from visiting Lebanon. Of course the official reason is that such a visit might undermine stability in the region and the Middle East peace talks. And things have been so stable and the talks been going so well up until now! We know the real reason – it’s that throwing arm.

But that’s Ahmadinejad for you.

On the other hand I’m perpetually puzzled by the sly approach to anti-Semitism I see in comments made by various organizations and individuals. I’ve previously covered the doctrine of Replacement Theology espoused by most churches.

In fact since then I’ve even dialogued with some who hold to RT and who emphatically proclaim that they aren’t anti-Semitic. But when pressed further – especially when their superseccionism is biblically challenged – end up letting a just a little bit of anti-Semitism slip into the debate.

Then there are those who throw out back-handed comments that at first appear to portray concern for Israel.

Take George Soros for example. He confuses me because he’s made lots and lots of money in the free market yet, ironically enough, he’s a socialist who hates capitalism. He reminds me of a larger scale Michael Moore, who is another person who’s made lots of money within the capitalist system yet passionately hates capitalism…and a list of other things.

Anyway, back in 2003 George Soros expressed a deep concern that anti-Semitism was on the rise in Europe:

“There is a resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe. The policies of the Bush administration and the Sharon administration contribute to that. It’s not specifically anti-Semitism, but it does manifest itself in anti-Semitism as well. I’m critical of those policies… If we change that direction, then anti-Semitism also will diminish. I can’t see how one could confront it directly.”

Get that? What Soros basically said is that anti-Semitism was on the rise because of Israel’s actions. In other words they can only blame themselves. It’s not blatant rock throwing but it does a lot more long-term damage.

What fascinates me is that while Soros is canny enough to make multiple billions he totally misses the facts about what really drives the problems in the Middle East. His remarks may have been motivated by a speech given shortly prior to his by the then outgoing Malaysian prime minister. Mahathir Mohammad infamously stated that, “Jews rule the world by proxy.”

Unfortunately, because of Soros’ stature and his Hungarian Jewish background; his commentary provides legitimacy to the myths that surround the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and adds fuel to a fire that has been burning since the days of Jacob and Esau.

Soros is also a financial supporter of J Street which also claims to be pro-Israel. In fact J Street takes the view that “Israel’s settlements in the occupied territories have, for over forty years, been an obstacle to peace.” That God covenanted to Abram far more land than Israel presently occupies (Gen 15:18) has no doubt never seriously crossed their minds. But biblical illiteracy is the least of their problems.

There’s nothing new in all this of course. Anti-Semitism is given legitimacy to those who want to hear it on a daily basis. It should be regularly exposed for what it really is.

Eventually Ahmadinejad is going to stop the symbolically-inspired rock throwing and go back to exploring the possibilities of his new Nuclear Reactor. Meanwhile the anti-Israel “Kool-Aid” peddlers will continue manacling Israel while time ticks away.

Time isn’t just ticking away for Israel. The ramifications of Iranian nuclear power will eventually affect everyone - even Mr Soros.
