Israel: Why is She Here in the First Place?
Israel - Middle East
Thursday, March 22, 2012
J.L. Robb

Over the years I have heard time-and-time again: Why is Israel there in the first place?

The Islamic countries hate Israel with a passion, almost a lust, that is otherworldly.

For anyone who hasn’t studied the Bible, it is difficult to understand why Israel was restored. Thomas Paine, a member of the intelligentsia of his day (1737-1809), didn’t understand.  He thought the Bible was a book of fables.

“The study of theology, as it stands in the Christian churches, is the study of nothing; it is founded on nothing; it rests on no principles; it proceeds by no authority; it has no data; it can demonstrate nothing; and it admits of no conclusion." Thomas Paine, Age of Reason

If Thomas had made it to 1948, he might have thought differently.  The ancient Jewish prophet, Ezekiel, made it very plain to see, as seen in the following quote:

"Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.’”  Ezekiel 37:11-14 NIV

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believed this prophecy was directed to the modern-day Jews by Ezekiel and had the following to say in a speech on the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz:

“The Jewish people rose from ashes and destruction, from a terrible pain that can never be healed. Armed with the Jewish spirit, the justice of man, and the vision of the prophets, we sprouted new branches and grew deep roots. Dry bones became covered with flesh, a spirit filled them, and they lived and stood on their own feet, as Ezekiel prophesied:

“Then He said to me, ‘Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’ Therefore prophesy and say to them, thus says the Lord God, ‘Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves and bring you into the land of Israel.’”

“I stand here today on the ground where so many of my people perished -- and I am not alone." Benjamin Netanyahu February 2010

This prophecy was fulfilled partly, and most significantly, when Israel was restored to her ancient (or part of it) land on May 14, 1948.  This has never happened with any other country in the written history of mankind, which once again shows the uniqueness of Israel.  Additionally, Hebrew is the only language that died and was reborn.

These prophecy fulfillments alone show the significance of Israel in the last days.

Though many, if not most, don’t believe the Bible end times prophecies, the events of today are happening, like it or not; and the Bible did predict them.  It’s interesting that so many people watch the History Channel, Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel and eagerly believe the “prophecies” of Nostradamus, the Maya and the Hopis; yet the same people wouldn’t think of picking up the Bible to see what it had to say about all this.  Nostradamus was correct less than 7% of the time.

Here’s what the Bible says:

"In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”  Jude said that in the New Testament.

Is it happening?

Luke may have said it best:

“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.“It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all."

“It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed.” NIV

Why don’t mainstream churches tell their flocks of this coming travesty and turmoil?  When was the last time your preacher had a sermon on “end time prophecies?”  Some churches even have book stores, but one would be hard-pressed to find a single book about the end times.  Why is that?

I have asked several pastors this question, with answers ranging from: “Beats me,” to “If everyone thinks the end really is near, they will stop tithing,” to “It’s too negative.”  That could very well be, but for those of us who believe the prophecies, the story has a happy ending.

"The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever." Revelation 11:15 NIV

As time goes by, and it seems to go by fast, many churches are actually turning against Israel.  Isn’t that strange?  They are turning away from Israel, in contradiction to Genesis 12:3, while at the same time, condoning homosexuality and marrying men to men or women to women.  Is this good?  Not according to the Good Book, as it describes this behavior as an abomination.

I had a friend a few years ago, a good, church-going man.  He and his wife went to a Wednesday night church meeting.  While he was holding his wife’s hand, the preacher said he had a “confession” to make to the congregation.  With that, he started to explain about his adulterous relationship and how guilty he felt about it, being a man of God and all.  Turned out to be my friend’s wife.

With churches turning against Israel and proclaiming Arab Muslims as the “victims,” the whole world seems to be turning against God’s Chosen, just as the Bible said it would.

These “predictions” would indicate that Israel and Jerusalem have some rough going ahead, and with the Arab Spring from hell will come the slaughter predicted. With the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, an ally of the U.S. and tolerator of Israel, the Muslim Brotherhood has taken over the parliament, has dismissed the Israeli ambassador, and the natural gas pipeline from Sinai to Israel and Jordan has been blown up 13 times since the takeover of Egypt.

Zechariah 12:3 made the following prediction about these times over 2500 years ago:

"It will happen in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all the peoples. All who burden themselves with it will be severely wounded, and all the nations of the earth will be gathered together against it.” NIV

So to all the Muslims who claim to love the God of Abraham, though they got His name wrong, but hate the fact that Israel is a country again, in the land the Arabs invaded and took over long ago, I can only say this:

You should take your anger to God and not the Israelis.  God said He would restore Israel, and He did.  Otherwise He would be a liar.

Israel is here today because God wanted it that way and because Israel had to be restored before the end could happen.

Case closed.
