Ed DeShields

Every week, I am faced with the same question; fluff or truth.† Surely, my readers, you want me to give you a dose of encouragement about the economy.† And, some of you sometimes tell me so.

You can make yourself pretty weary writing about this subject but Iíve decided to just call it as I see it each week.† Itís a subject I know something about and I study it carefully.† I talk to others far smarter than me to make sure Iím on the right track.†† But, that doesnít mean I am always thrilled on Sundays when I ponder another article.†

I do this solely to serve the Lord with His blessing and guidance and pray that others will see so they will somehow protect themselves.† If Iím wrong, then I wonít harm myself or my readers financially, but if Iím right Iíll prosper and my family will prosper after Iím gone.† And, perhaps you will too if it is His will.†

Iím not a gamer, nor do I prescribe to digging a hole to bury food in fear because I am not afraid.† But, I am investing heavily in areas that will outpace inflation when it arrives.† And, it will arrive.†

I donít suggest where people invest because I donít have anything to sell them.† I am buying land (for timber or food production) and minerals (oil and gas) that people have to have and will rise in value because people need them to survive.† I am buying assets that produce royalties or income that will outpace inflation.† Some gold is good, but the government can confiscate your gold Ė and will if things go bad Ė and you might not be able to get to Switzerland to cash yours in.†

I have very good friends that are institutional investment managers who use fluff for profit.† You feel good when you talk to them.† These are folks that are responsible for other peopleís money yet they encourage people to jump into the stock market despite the horrible underlying structure to which all of us are quite well aware.† Then, they drive their Bentleys home at night satisfied that they are very smart and very wealthy.

Some will scoff.† But, anyone can see it coming.† I bet you can too.†

Ask yourself: Are you earning more? Are taxes falling? Is the housing market improving? Is the euro problem solved? Has the U.S. government fixed its debt problem? Have we paid off trillions in personal debt?† Are governments falling all over the world because their citizens are fed up?† Is your grocery bill going up?† Are you paying more for gasoline?†

Itís a well-known game that when institutional investors flood the markets they rally.† They know that consumers take along time to get the courage to jump in.† But the moment they do, the investor money jumps out taking their profits and passing the losses to the small guys.†††

Does the Bibleís prophecy message correlate to what youíre reading in the news everyday?

Weíre at the end of the second (of three) phases of the decay pattern that began in 2008; fooling consumers to take the losses followed by a stock market correction and profit taking by the institutional investors where more government bailouts will be called for to keep the ship afloat Ė on the backs of the taxpaying little guy.†

Letís look at Greeceís GDP over the last few years:

2008 GDP: 0.2% (The U.S. is here)
2009 GDP: -3.3%
2010: GDP -3.4%
2011: GDP -6.9%

Thatís what the U.S. will look like.† Japan too.† And the rest of Europe.

Thereís a lot to be encouraged about, but our economic future isnít one of them Ė that is if you have been fooled to believe that governments around the world will suddenly realize they have to do something now to change the current course.
