Kool-aide Drinking Zombies - Part 2
Commentary on the News
Saturday, September 29, 2012
Rebecca Droeger

Last week, we explored the horrendous massacre that occurred when zealous cult leader Jim Jones lead 909 members of the Peoples Temple to their graves by cyanide poisoning or gun shot wounds back in 1978.  It was the largest loss of American civilian life in a non-natural event until September 11, 2001.

We also uncovered the truth behind the cult in that it covered as a Christian congregation, when in actuality; it was an organization that was built on social justice.  In essence, Jim Jones would loosely quote verses from the Bible to conform to his ideals of a perfect socialist society.

But what is Socialism or social justice?  We have often talked about it in our Omega Letter forums before; and many of us know that it pales in comparison to Capitalism.  But why?

Well, my fellow members and readers, I not only believe Socialism is bad; I believe it is evil and leads societies to their ultimate demise.

If you were brought up in my generation, it was around the time our teachers were starting to look at Sweden and other Socialist governments and suggesting “maybe this isn’t such a bad idea after all.”

In essence, when you look at Wictionary’s definition of Socialism, it doesn’t sound so horrible:

“Any of various economic and political philosophies that support social equality, collective decision-making, distribution of income based on contribution and public ownership of productive capital and natural resources.”

Really, what would be wrong with distribution of income based on contribution towards a society?  I’m sure we have all been victims at work where we have done twice as much as a team member, but never received the reward.  Or, we all know a lot of us work our hind-ends off to live comfortably while another person lives off government entitlements.  It would seem only fair if they only received rewards comparable to what they produced.

In actuality, it never works that way; and it leaves the government to decide who gets what and to determine what is “fair.”  It leaves far too much decision making in the government’s hands, and far too much control over everyday, people’s lives.

That is the beauty of the way our Founders mapped out the United States’ government.  They designed it to be a Republic to be Capitalist in nature:  private property rights, including the private ownership of resources or capital, with economic decisions made largely through the operation of a market unregulated by the state.

The Founders recognized that rights were given by God, and that government should be designed to respect personal property rights, as well as protect them.  This leaves the decision making up to the individual.

So, if someone wants to be greedy, then it is their God given right.  If someone wants to be generous, they can do so; and do it freely.  What is amazing is that our nation continues to be the most giving/charitable nation on Earth; and we are the freest and wealthiest individuals on the planet.  Yet, we’re still Capitalists, and we manage to do all of this good.

Enter the socialist agenda that wants to take these freedoms away and give it to the government to redistribute the wealth.  Sure, the average socialist is liberal; and they think man’s justice would dictate that the wealthy must give up what they have so the poor can have a fair shake at life.  What they fail to see is that it is ultimately stealing.  It is the government taking money earned from someone who worked for it and giving it to someone who did not.  Bottom line.

Then, someone like Jim Jones comes on the scene and ties in parsed Bible verses to insinuate that Jesus wants us to sell everything we have a give it to the poor.  And what most likely seemed so attractive to many of his followers is that he and others in the Peoples Temple seemed to be doing that very thing.

What was so destructive is that his philosophy was built around his own idea of fairness, and his own sense of justice, not God’s.  He was perfectly fine with everyone giving up all they had, as long as they followed him.

This is what is ultimately evil about Socialism and social justice.  Someone or a group of someone’s have to have the power to call the shots and to say who gets what.  That gives all the power to the ruling class instead of to God.  And who would you rather call the shots over your life?  I sure as heck don’t want someone like Jim Jones doing it.

“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 16:25 NKJV)

Post Script:

As a side note, I still cannot help but to mourn for those who lost their lives out of ignorance in following this evil man.  Ultimately, they put their faith in what Jim Jones’ mission seemed to be, which gave off the appearance of equality, diversity, and fairness in a tumultuous time when segregation was very real.  If they had continually studied the Bible and sought a relationship with God, then they could have spotted the danger that this man posed.

Please always read the Holy Word of God.  It will always lead us back to Him even if we get carried away with someone who pretends to carry His message.  We can compare what the Bible has to say versus what someone has to say about the Bible, and we will be able to judge whether that person is carrying the Bible’s message, or his own.
