Gog, Reloaded.
Israel - Middle East
Tuesday, May 28, 2013
Wendy Wippel

Last week's topic: with Russian ships in the Mediterranean, it's pretty hard to deny the potential for some serious prophetic doings (prophetic doings a la Ezekiel 38 and 39) in our future.  Been there, wrote that, and intended to move on.  But I'm back.  Because it may be even closer than I thought…

Why?  Iranian state TV, right about the time that my last report hit the OL, reported that a "massive" number of new, long-range missile launchers had been delivered to Iranian military operations.  Missile launchers with the capacity to launch, simultaneously, a similarly "massive" number of surface-to-surface missiles.

Missiles with a range, no less, of 1200 miles.

According to Iranian Defense Minister Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, that these new weapons will ensure Iranian capacity to "crush" the enemy.  (He neglected to define who the enemy was.)

He did, however, add that Iran would never start a war.

Just call him Tehran Tom.  (Baghdad Bob being the media moniker for Saddam's former spokesman who asserted, as American forces toppled Saddam's statues in Baghdad in 2002, that, "There are no American infidels in Baghdad.  Never!")

So just call me skeptical with regard to Iran's motives.  Or Mid East motives in general.  Or the motives of Mid East generals in general.  But luckily we don't have to rely on Tehran Tom for our intelligence.  We have both the enemy, and the animus, straight from the Mahmoud's mouth:

"The Zionist regime, with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion, and betrayal, Is about to die, and will soon be erased from the geographical scene." - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 2008

"Israel is a tumor that will be soon cut out of the Middle East." - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 2012

“Anyone who loves freedom and justice must strive for the annihilation of the Zionist regime. - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 2012

"Israel must be eliminated from the earth." -  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, 2012.

And he's not a lone wolf.  Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Iran's former president, once made the observation that,

"one bomb is enough to destroy Israel." - 2001

And who knows how, exactly, Tehran Tom would define "start".  Because history makes it clear that Iran consistently acts in such a way as to provoke a war.

Tehran declared war on US and Israel in 1979 when Ayatollah Khomeini gained power (naming the US and Israel as the Great Satan and Little Satan)

They tried to hire Mexican drug lords to kill the Saudi ambassador (and an indeterminant number of Americans as collateral damage) in our capital city in 2011.

That plot discovered and foiled, thank God. (And Quantico.)

But it wasn't foiled when Iran bombed 1500 sleeping servicemen in the Marine barracks in Lebanon.  (An attack my husband personally was sent, as a fellow Marine, to respond to.)  A total of 241 American soldiers were killed.  Reagan did not declare war.

It wasn't foiled when, in 1996 Iran bombed Saudi housing of American servicemen, killing 20.  Clinton did not declare war.

And Iran hasn't been prevented from arming Hezbollah and Hamas (who have been publically grateful for Iran's assistance), providing the Iranian army with nearly 100,000 rockets and missiles over the last ten years.

Rockets and missiles which are now all in Israel.  Fired at Israel, by Arab Iranian-backed terrorists.

Israel has not declared war.

And Iran has made a secret of their motives.  Khomeini made clear in 1979 that their goal is to establish a global Islamic empire.  A new Caliphate, with Iranian leaders at the helm.

"The governments of the world should know that … Islam will be victorious in all the countries of the world, and Islam and the teachings of the Qur'an will prevail all over the world." Khomeini said. "We must export our Revolution throughout the world."

And even though Tehran Tom didn't name enemies, Ahmadinejad, just last September, made sure that we in the US understand who they are:

"Iran has been around for the last …10 thousand years. They (the Israelis) have been occupying those territories for the last 60 to 70 years, with the support and force of the Westerners."

Israel and the "Westerners".  That's us.  There's a reason they've been shouting Death to the U.S., Death to Israel" for the last 35 years.  The enemy is Israel, and the enemy is us.

Those "massive" numbers of new missile-launchers, if you remember, have a range of 1200 miles.

Jerusalem, as it happens, is only 970 miles away.  Many American bases are within airstrike of new those new weapons as well.

And it gets worse.  As it turns out, it’s not a single-front offensive.  Iranian attacks on American servicemen and women have been joined by cyber-attacks on American energy and finance institutions.  The Feds, in concert with relevant industry experts, confirmed Friday that a series of electronic attacks have been leveled on American oil, gas and electric companies, attacks which were preceded by similar, though less sophisticated, attacks on American banks.  The assaults, according to government officials, were designed to eradicate data as well as enable the entity responsible to seize control of critical elements of our infrastructure.

Like our banking systems.  Or our oil pipelines.  Or our nuclear reactors.

Leon Penetta, when similar cyber-snooping was confirmed in a Saudi businesses (Aramco and RasGas), warned the US a year ago that our turn was coming.   His advice?  Get ready for, in his words, a cyber "Pearl Harbor".

The Feds confirmed Friday that the recent attacks on various American interests originated in Iran.   Courtesy, again, of Mahmoud and Co.

So when Tehran Tom announces "massive" numbers of new weapons, there's no question what their objectives are.  Iran may not ("technically") ever "start" the war.  But they're desperate to have one.

And we know, courtesy of Ezekiel, that it's only a matter of time.

This latest news from Iran might, in fact, shed some light on the Ezekiel passage.  One thing Ezekiel makes clear is that when the northern alliance, headed by the prince of Meschech and Tubal (i.e. Moscow and Tbilisi) attacks Israel (although Sheba, Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish rebuke the attack, Ezekiel 38:13), no one comes to their defense.

Sheba and Dedan are ancient names for the Saudi Peninsula.  The merchants of Tarshish?  What we know about Tarshish (from Scripture) is that it was wealthy area that, with the help of the seafaring Phoenicians, exported silver, iron, tin and lead (Jeremiah 10:9; Ezekiel 27:12,25).  We also know that, from the perspective of Israel, it was the furthermost parts of the west.  (Psalm 72:10)

From those two clues, many Biblical scholars believe that Tarshish referred to what are now Spain and the British isles.  Which is interesting, because the Ezekiel passage goes on to say that the merchants of Tarshish and their "offspring" --"young lions"-- (traditional KJV), or "villages" (KJV 2000)--  will challenge Gog's actions --possibly referring to England (whose national symbol is the lion) and the US.  As well as possibly Australia, Canada, and other "offspring" of the British Empire.

And, for now, the Saudis and the US have in common being the targets of Iranian cyber warfare.  Totally a coincidence, I'm sure.

So, although a group of nations --possibly the Saudis, the US, and England--protest, there is no mention of anyone--not anyone--coming to Israel's aid.

That could well be because their capability to do so has been wiped out as part and parcel of the attack.

Just like Pearl Harbor.

And only in this day and age could that be done, almost literally, by the flip of a switch.  (A binary one, at that.)

We live in interesting times.   But our times are in His hands.

Keep looking up!
