Duck Dynasty and Jesusí Name

J.L. Robb

In 1963 a lady named  Madalyn Murray O’Hair won a United States Supreme Court ruling that made it illegal to pray in schools. This action forever changed the world; because whatever drastically changes the U.S., changes the world.

That ruling is having repercussions every day.

I’ve never watched Duck Dynasty, but many of my friends do. They rave about it. When I watch TV, it’s usually in the realm of National Geographic or the Science channel and a lot of news channels, especially FOX. The other day I heard a guy at the Rexall Grill say, “Those girls on FOX shore are purty. And smart too.” Yes, they are very intelligent which makes news interesting. FOX reports on Duck Dynasty regularly, so that’s how I found out about this:

Apparently there is a good bit of praying going on in the A&E show. Phil Robertson is the Duck Commander and started noticing that when he said a prayer, the ending was edited out. Of course, Christians know what that last part is; and we also know why it has been edited out.

Jesus did not demand that his followers end their prayers “in Jesus’ name.” However, it was made quite clear that if one wanted an affirmative answer to the prayer, praying to God in His name would be a great help. Jesus did not say that every prayer would be answered according to our desires, but they would be answered according to our best interest. Jesus is quoted in the following scripture:

“And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:13  NIV

In the victory for atheists in the 1963 Supreme Court ruling, Madalyn was not alone in her fight to remove God from the school system. There were plenty of preachers and rabbis joining in. Why?

The preachers who joined the fight against God, which is odd in itself, fought because of self-preservation (job security). If the schools taught folk about God, why go to their church? Silly reasoning. The rabbis on the other hand didn’t mind having God in the school system as long as the praying wasn’t done “in Jesus’ name.”

Think about that, because it makes so much sense from the perspective of the rabbi. Praying in the name of Jesus would be acknowledging that Jesus really had been the Messiah, the one the “children of Israel” (the House of David) demanded be put to death. What a blunder that would be; and it will be proven to be when it’s all said and done, according to the Bible.

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. Zechariah 12:10  NIV

One of my closest friends is a wonderful woman who has a tremendous heart. One time she told me, as a Jewish woman (Reform), that it wasn’t praying that bothered the Jewish people, but “Why do you have to pray in Jesus’ name? That’s what’s offensive.”

Well, we sure don’t want to offend anyone, only it seems okay to insult Jesus by not doing what He asked. Political correctness seems to always win, but it’s a mirage.

I explained to my friend that if she knew the reason Christians usually end their prayers “in Jesus’ name” she would understand how important it is. By asking prayers in Jesus’ name, we are acknowledging to God that we truly believe that Jesus is who He said He was, the Son of God and the Messiah. Jesus was not just another Jewish preacher trying to get the rabbis’ business, though that is how He has been defined by Jewish clergy over the years.

Isn’t it interesting that we have Christmas but are forbidden to mention Christ or Jesus because of political correctness? Christmas season is fast approaching; and if anyone thinks there is not a war on Christianity, make a note of how many Christmas ads you see in the paper or on TV that actually mention Christmas instead of “Holiday.” Make note of how many Christmas ads have manger scenes, three king scenes or anything whatsoever referring to Jesus, the Reason for the Season.

On February 7, 2013 this Huffington Post headline announced a lawsuit by the ACLU to remove a painting of Jesus from a rural Ohio public (government) school, a painting that had been in the school since 1947.

Ohio School's Jesus Portrait: ACLU Seeks Removal Of Christian Painting At Jackson Middle School

“The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio and the Madison, Wis.-based Freedom From Religion Foundation say the large portrait at Jackson Middle School unconstitutionally promotes religion. The two groups seek a court order requiring the school to remove the portrait and prohibiting its re-hanging or any substantially similar display in the future.”

Yes, we wouldn’t want our children to learn about the religion that is the largest religion in the world and has shaped Western Legal Codes for two millennia. We certainly wouldn’t want our little darlings to be taught that our present-day calendar system is based solely around the birth of Jesus. Are they even taught what B.C and A.D. mean?

Anno Domini (AD or A.D.) is Latin for “In the year of the Lord,” and the Lord spoken of is Jesus the Christ. A.D. was used in the Gregorian and Julian calendars to indicate the years after Jesus’ birth. The years before Jesus’ birth were designate B.C., which meant “before Christ."

Ever wonder how many mass school shootings would’ve been avoided had we continued to teach our kids the truth instead of the deception that God doesn’t really exist? But we wanted to allow the young children to “express themselves.”

We pay our tax dollars to a government school system that teaches our young children that abortions and homosexuality are cool, but Jesus is uncool. Why do we do that?

Phil Robertson berated A&E Entertainment Network about editing the prayers in Duck Dynasty, so now I’m a fan. It appears that A&E listened. One day, maybe, Hollywood will figure out that the large majority of Americans really do believe in God and that we like singers that stay fully clothed and housewives that aren’t desperate.

The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good. Psalm 53:1  NIV

Their ways are vile. Rearrange the letters for the definition: evil

By the way, the ACLU won the Ohio case this week. The painting of Jesus has been removed, and the school has to pay nearly $100,000 in the ACLU’s legal fees. I guess that makes us all safer? God calls these people fools. So do I. Vile fools.
