Ever heard of Kenneth Watt, Ecologist?

He has quite the resumé:

  • Professor, University of California , Davis
  • Professor Emeritus, Evolution and Ecology
  • CO2 Science: Scientific and Policy Advisor
  • Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide:Scientific and Policy Advisor
  • PhD Zoology

One would certainly think that a college professor with such credentials would be credible; and of course, that is what any parent would want for their children: Good professors who teach truth rather than fiction and opinion.

The first Earth Day celebration occurred in 1970, and thus began the world’s most recent paganistic journey toward the worship of nature rather than God. Biblically, this worship was an insult to The Almighty as He explained to the Israelites many times: You worship rocks. What does that do for you? You worship trees. What does that do for you?

Throughout the Old Testament and New Testament, the Bible warns of false teachers who say what we want to hear.

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 NIV

Kenneth Watt, as beloved as he is among nature worshipers, as intelligent as his resume claims, is a false prophet and teacher. At the first Earth Day of 1970, Kenneth had this to predict:

"The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age."    Ecologist Kenneth Watt

"By the year 2000, if present trends continue, we will be using up crude oil at such a rate… that there won't be any more crude oil. You'll drive up to the pump and say, ‘Fill 'er up, buddy,' and he'll say, ‘I am very sorry, there isn't any.'"  Ecologist Kenneth Watt

"At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it's only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable."    Ecologist Kenneth Watt

Ever heard of Paul Ehrlich? Also quite a resumé:

  • Born in 1932, biologist and professor.
  • Shared Sweden’s Crafoord Prize, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences

Another brilliant false predictor of events to come. From Earth Day 1970:

"Air pollution...is certainly going to take hundreds of thousands of lives in the next few years alone."  Paul Ehrlich

"Most of the people who are going to die in the greatest cataclysm in the history of man have already been born… [By 1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s."  Paul Ehrlich

Yet the intellectual lemmings flock to the table of environmental manipulation.

In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution … by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half …” Life Magazine, 1970

In addressing idolatry, Solomon’s Book of Wisdom, Chapter 13, GNT, is specific:

The Foolishness of Nature Worship

Anyone who does not know God is simply foolish. Such people look at the good things around them and still fail to see the living God. They have studied the things he made, but they have not recognized the one who made them. Instead, they suppose that the gods who rule the world are fire or wind or storm or the circling stars or rushing water or the heavenly bodies. People were so delighted with the beauty of these things that they thought they must be gods, but they should have realized that these things have a master and that he is much greater than all of them, for he is the creator of beauty, and he created them. Since people are amazed at the power of these things, and how they behave, they ought to learn from them that their maker is far more powerful. When we realize how vast and beautiful the creation is, we are learning about the Creator at the same time.

But maybe we are too harsh with these people. After all, they may have really wanted to find God, but couldn't. Surrounded by God's works, they keep on looking at them, until they are finally convinced that because the things they see are so beautiful, they must be gods. But still, these people really have no excuse. If they had enough intelligence to speculate about the nature of the universe, why did they never find the Lord of all things?

The Foolishness of Idolatry

But the most miserable people of all are those who rest their hopes on lifeless things, who worship things that have been made by human hands—images of animals artistically made from gold and silver, or some useless stone carved by someone years ago. A skilled woodworker may saw down some suitable tree, carefully strip off the bark, and then, with skillful craftsmanship, make from it an object that will serve some useful purpose. He will take the leftover pieces and use them as firewood to cook a meal that he can sit down to and enjoy. But among that scrap wood he may take one piece that isn't good for anything—maybe it's crooked and full of knots—and carefully carve it in his leisure time, using spare moments to shape it into the crude image of a person, or maybe of some worthless animal. He paints it all over with red, covering up every flaw in the work. Then he prepares a suitable place in the wall for it and fastens it in place with iron nails. He is careful to keep it from falling, because he knows it is only an idol and needs help; it cannot help itself. But he is not ashamed to pray to this lifeless thing about his marriage, his children, and his possessions. It is weak, but he prays to it for health. It is dead, but he prays to it for life. It has no experience, but he prays to it for help. It cannot walk, but he prays to it for a successful journey. Its hands have no power, but he asks it to help him—in business, in making money, and in his work.

False prophets seem to be coming out of the woodwork, scaring everyone; but the Book of Revelation has earlier predictions of climate change and global warming. Al Gore and Kenneth Watt, Life Magazine and Paul Ehrlich get the media glory; but this is an old story. It will get warmer, it will get windier, the seas will become more turbulent, droughts will become more prevalent.

Earth Day 1970 has zero to do with any of it. Worship nature at one’s peril; worship the Maker of nature and give Him the glory. Does the ecologist really see the symmetry of a tiger lily or an allium as a coincidence? I think so. It is a Godincidence.
