Booty from Ashes
March 14, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
The love of this scientist’s heart?  Molecular biology.  But I have to admit, archaeology as a close second. I also have to admit that it’s really my fault that –having every one of the “Bones” books on my bookshelf-- my daughter will be finishing up her degree in Archaeology this summer by finding and studying ball mummy burials in the Andes mountains in Peru.
Christians and Courage that Matters
March 09, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
What is courage? According to the dictionaries courage, or bravery, is the ability to something which frightens one. It is the mental and moral willingness to act on one’s beliefs despite danger, difficulty or disapproval.
Happy Sermons
March 08, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
Should sermons be happy? Do happy sermons help hold on to or increase church membership? With many churches, keeping or attaining members has proven to be anything but happy. Others are booming.
The Last Hope
March 06, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
I suppose you could call me a news junkie. Every day it’s my habit to scan through a few websites to see what’s going on in the world.
Wherefore Art Thou, Sargon?
February 07, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
If you’re like me, you hear the name Sargon and you think of an alien guy that appeared in a Star Trek episode in 1970. Sargon? Sounds like an alien name to me.
Promises, Promises
January 31, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
We all know the Bible contains lots of God’s promises to His own. At least 3573 actually.(Someone counted). In fact, the word “promise" itself occurs over 50 times in the Bible. There are some verses, I‘m guessing, that just about all of God’s children have struggled with once or twice, when their resources dwindled. Or suddenly deserted them, making giving to the Lord seem like an act of insanity.
January 30, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
I have a tiny note taped to the top right corner of my computer screen. It’s a diminutive reminder from a fortune cookie that reads, “Your hard work will pay off today.” I’m an entrepreneur cursed with big visions, and while I place zero credibility on fortune cookies, I can use all the passive encouragement I can get.
Preparing for Tribulation
January 26, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
Preparing for Tribulation - how do we prepare for the tribulation and Jesus' return? While we're asking questions, how do we prepare for any pre-tribulation tribulation? You know - the kind which often overtakes us in our daily lives.
Giving Glory to God
January 16, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
Sometimes my focus just gets away from me.
Christianity and the Jewish Holy Days
January 11, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
Should the Church observe the holy days and feasts that are outlined in the Old Testament?
Know Fear
January 09, 2018 - Witnessing Tools
Sometimes I read things in the Bible that – at the very least - concern me deeply. So, let me be up-front about some background.
December 28, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
The word, temptation, generally refers to something that is not particularly good.
The Cradle, the Cross, and the Crown
December 25, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
As we enjoy this Christmas Season, it is fitting for Christian households and churches to focus on the first coming of Jesus Christ. In times past, and perhaps not so much anymore, one could see the manger scenes in town squares and in front of churches of all denominations. Christmas cards bearing the Star or the three Wisemen are passed amongst believers during this season.  Preachers preach predominantly from Matthew 1-2, churches hold cantatas and the sounds of “peace on earth, good will toward men” fill the ears of believers round the world. Bethlehem, Israel becomes the focus of world stage once again, as Christian’s flock to the Church of the Nativity which is currently held hostage by the Palestinian movement.
A Singular Celebration
December 20, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
Of all the  principle players in the Christmas Story, the most enigmatic, in my humble opinion, is Simeon. The guy who was in charge, at the time, of circumcision for new male additions to the Jewish Tribe. The Bible calls him just and devout, waiting for the  consolation of Israel, otherwise known as the Messiah. Kind of a mysterious fellow too, because one look at the  newborn Jesus and he says, “I can depart in peace”.
A Blessed Christ-Centered Christmas
December 08, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
I can't recall having written a column about Christmas before. So I'm feeling somewhat jittery. During this time, people tend to get into heated arguments and debates about Christmas. Regardless of anything I say there will be someone somewhere who disagrees.
Dude...What's that Sound?
November 22, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
The Parkes Radio Telescope in New South Wales, Australia, has had its glory days, being one of the radio antennae used to broadcast the live images of the Apollo moon landing in 1969. It’s scientists since then have contributed much to our understanding of space. They have had another stretch of fame lately. But not for a good reason.
The Night of Broken Glass
November 16, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
As I write, it is November 11, Veterans Day. A salute to all veterans, because it is never an easy job.
Swarms Without Number
November 15, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
As somebody who’s never lived closer than 700 miles from a large body of water, I’ve never had any desire to actually immerse myself in an ocean. Closest thing in my experience was swimming in an actual swimming hole every summer at Girl Scout Camp, and, in that context, after each swim session, being required to get each ear filled with rubbing alcohol in order to ward off infection. So, oceans? Not for me.  Till last week.
On Seeing the Face of God
November 10, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
Who is worthy or holy enough to gaze upon the face of a holy God? Who is worthy to approach His throne? Over recent months I keep running across the theme of God's holiness and God's glory in books, quotes; and in Scripture which seems to suddenly jump out at me.
On Christian Jihad & Peace Making
October 27, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
When we hear the word "jihad" I bet most of us are on the same page. We conjure up images of terrorists with guns, or someone with a bomb strapped around their torso, or even someone flying a plane into a building. These images of jihad are predominant in our minds because experience can be a powerful teacher.
Halloween History
October 26, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
“If this is like previous Halloweens, the emergency room at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will treat children for cuts and banged heads from falls, or even worse, those struck by cars.” ~The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Kvetch Like an Egyptian
October 11, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
You may have missed it (as I did) but apparently the things that keeps Biblical scholars up at night has lately been this: were the ancient Egyptians black or white? Dunno why this was such a academic obsession, but now we have an answer. Neither.
East Meets West
October 09, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
21st century Americans don’t give much thought to Columbus Day anymore. For many, it’s just another federal holiday. Others as of late are highly offended by something that happened 525 years ago and yet, are only here to complain about it because of being direct beneficiaries of it.
September 28, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
I began playing golf late in my life, at least for golf, at age 45. I have never been very good and found the difficulty frustrating. I love nature and spend a lot of time in the woods and water when I play. I am lucky to break 100, unless I use a Mulligan… or three.
Through the Desert on a Force with No Name
September 27, 2017 - Witnessing Tools
The word “desert" used in an geographical context means, “a region largely devoid of rain and therefore also largely devoid of vegetation, or life”.  According to astrophysicists, however (Who knew!), there is also a desert in space.  A "particle desert". Which shocked them, for two reasons. First, because it shouldn’t be there. Second, because if it wasn’t there, we wouldn’t be here either.
