What Is This World Coming To?

Food Rationing Hits USA

Many parts of America, long considered the breadbasket of the world, are now confronting a once unthinkable phenomenon: food rationing. Major retailers in New York, in areas of New England, and on the West Coast are limiting purchases of flour, rice, and cooking oil as demand outstrips supply. There are also anecdotal reports that some consumers are hoarding grain stocks.

At a Costco Warehouse in Mountain View, Calif., yesterday, shoppers grew frustrated and occasionally uttered expletives as they searched in vain for the large sacks of rice they usually buy.

“Where’s the rice?” an engineer from Palo Alto, Calif., Yajun Liu, said. “You should be able to buy something like rice. This is ridiculous.”

The bustling store in the heart of Silicon Valley usually sells four or five varieties of rice to a clientele largely of Asian immigrants, but only about half a pallet of Indian-grown Basmati rice was left in stock. A 20-pound bag was selling for $15.99.

“You can’t eat this every day. It’s too heavy,” a health care executive from Palo Alto, Sharad Patel, grumbled as his son loaded two sacks of the Basmati into a shopping cart. “We only need one bag but I’m getting two in case a neighbor or a friend needs it,” the elder man said.

The original NYSun item has evidently struck a nerve — the link is so busy you may not be able to get to it, but here is the link to the full story.

  1. Well if you think it’s bad now just read what God has to sy about the future:

    “Revelation Chapter 6 verses 5-6
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”

  3. The news really don’t want to mention this “shortage”, but it is real. The black horse is gearing up for it’s ride…

  4. I live in Phoenix Arizona and 2 of our largest grocery stores are now rationing rice. What is next? But i’m sure we’ll soon have all the corn based E85 we can consume as we drive from store to store looking for food!!!

  5. Time to plant our own gardens even if you only have a small one. Highly doubt we can stop the Black Horse, but we can help feed our families by canning our fresh veggies (and fruit, if you have it) from our own gardens. Either that, or we can all move to Al Gore’s house and live in comfort with a plethora of food…
