Somehow, the headline, “Hamas Breaks Truce” seems to fit best into the “Dog Bites Man” category. Evidently, firing rockets into Israel is like smoking — it’s a hard habit to break cold-turkey.
Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip says they carried out the attack to avenge an Israeli military raid that killed one of their terrorist colleagues in the West Bank.
The West Bank isn’t part of the truce, but that’s not important, say the terrorists. Islamic Jihad says it “cannot keep its hands tied” when its “brothers” in the West Bank are being “targeted”.
A pro-marijuana group is calling on the government to allow marijuana in smoking lounges at airports across the country.
Cigarette smoking at Denver International Airport and other airports across the country is restricted to smoking lounges.
Members of the Denver-based organization Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation (SAFER) will ask the government Tuesday to allow pot in airport smoking lounges.
The group says in a press release that the idea will address the growing number of in-flight problems involving drunk and disorderly passengers. Members claim marijuana is a better alternative to alcohol to help more fliers relax and deal with the anxiety of air travel.
IAEA Chief Will Fall On Sword Over Iran
“The chief of the United Nations nuclear watchdog said in remarks aired on Friday that he would resign if there was a military strike on Iran, warning that any such attack would turn the region into a fireball,’ ” Reuters reports from Dubai:
“I don’t believe that what I see in Iran today is a current, grave and urgent danger. If a military strike is carried out against Iran at this time … it would make me unable to continue my work,” International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohamad ElBaradei told Al Arabiya television in an interview. . . .
“If you do a military strike, it will mean that Iran, if it is not already making nuclear weapons, will launch a crash course to build nuclear weapons with the blessing of all Iranians, even those in the West.”
“Israel carried out a major military exercise earlier this month that American officials say appeared to be a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities,” the New York Times reported recently.
“A senior Pentagon official who has been briefed on the exercise, and who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the political delicacy of the matter, said the exercise appeared to serve multiple purposes.
One Israeli goal, the Pentagon official said, was to practice flight tactics, aerial refueling and all other details of a possible strike against Iran’s nuclear installations and its long-range conventional missiles.
A second, the official said, was to send a clear message to the United States and other countries that Israel was prepared to act militarily if diplomatic efforts to stop Iran from producing bomb-grade uranium continued to falter.
“They wanted us to know, they wanted the Europeans to know, and they wanted the Iranians to know,” the Pentagon official said. “There’s a lot of signaling going on at different levels.”
Can you imagine what he might have said had that ’senior Pentagon official’ NOT been ’sensitive to political delicacies?’
The Middle East Media Research Institute has the transcript of a speech by Libya’s dictator, Col. Moammar Gadhafi, who weighs in on the U.S. presidential election. Gadhafi faults Barack Obama for his recent comments that Jerusalem will remain the undivided capital of Israel:
Allah willing, it will turn out that this was merely elections propaganda. Obama said he would turn Jerusalem into the eternal capital of the Israelis. This indicates that our brother Obama is ignorant of international politics, and is not familiar with the Middle East conflict.
