7 Shout AMEN!Amen ~ 8 PrayingPraying

Member Comments:
Great article. I have been amazed at how the nuclear disaster in Japan just keeps getting worse and worse. I feel like we our time here is getting quite short.

Thanks Ed.  I am not surprised, especially after the news last night that they are essentially abandoning these reactors.  It is unbelievable to watch.  Have already seen some panic buying in this country of  KI pills.  Betsy

I agree Ed, and thank you! We don't know how long Jesus will keep us here when all hell breaks loose. I think it is wise to be prepared but resting ultimately in that Jesus will be by our side and see us through it all. Living VERY close to San Onofre nuke plant I have thought of getting some iodine pills for myself and family. Radiation exposure is a horrible way to die. But I know our lives are in Jesus' hands.

I'm not the panicky sort but i have noticed somethings that have been happening at the super market.  potatoes and onions are selling out, every week there are empty shelves. i've never seen that.  tomatoes and other fruits are more expensive.  our grocery bill has gone up by about $50/week i'd say.  we've got ways to cut down though but i'm loathe to give up the organic stuff.

will keep an eye out.  you know, my co-worker here says "there is no way the economy will fail".  i was a bit dumbfounded actually.  oh well.  maybe when it does he'll be a bit more receptive.  or not.

I wrote my friend, a nuclear plant operator in the TVA system in Tennessee.  Here's a direct response from a guy that knows what buttons to push to avoid a disaster.

"From what I can tell, the loss of cooling has increased the fuel rod temperatures to in excess of 2200 F. at those temp, the metal the rods are made of (the tubes that hold the fuel) begin to oxidize rapidly by stripping the oxygen atom out of the h2o water molecule giving off even more heat and hydrogen as a byproduct.

Pressure rises in the reactor vessel and must be vented off. This is high temp steam which contains that hydrogen and radioactive bi products from fuel.. That is the h2 that exploded.

The rods have probably collapsed, dropping the fuel to the bottom of the reactor.  Good news, the heat from the fuel diminishes over time quickly. They just have to keep putting water in.  The metal reactor vessel should keep the fuel in place."

If the outer vessel doesn't crack.
